Create an SMS vCard

Comments

Now throw away your business cards. Instead, go to smsmeon.com and grab a keyword. I have taken nimish. And configured my response message with my Name, Designation and Contact Details. So, if anyone does want my contact details I can simply ask them to sms nimish to 56070. Neat.

Offlate i heard a few founders mentioning "Launching Y will cannibalise their X product" . My advise to them "You better cannibalize your own product before somebody else killing it :D"

I am of the opinion that the classic FMCG Marketing rules are always not true in Internet Industry :)
  • In any case, vFirst wants to now focus their sales towards the enterprise push solutions rather than pull solutions. So it may be a good thing to do.

that might cannibalize a lot of their existing business though...
  • Introduction of scripts would be nice. Also am sure vFirst has had to do a lot of them already because of their pull service clientele. Maybe they could just put those up.

Other than sub-keywords, Ability to write scripts to build simple but useful services on this short code would help open up this space.

I am not sure if normal consumers will ever use it. It has to be positioned for enthusiasts/hobbyists who build services (but don't want to pay short code rentals) for end consumers.
  • I really don't care if it takes off as long as I can continue to use it in this fashion. ;-) And I agree that it needs to be more flexible.

For example, they should have given the user the ability to create their own sub-keywords. The current set of sub-keywords isn't any good. Also, if they think that this will be twitter-like then it's a huge mistake.

Another problem I foresee is whether normal users would understand the terminology. At the end of the day it's akin to a user id that they are asking you to select. So why call it Keyword. In fact when I first went on to the site, I saw Search for Keywords and thought it was some kind of search tool. LOL.

Nice concept but, I am not sure if it'll really take off. It has to be little more flexible for it to be useful.

It'll surely kill the short code business of various VAS companies - which is good....
