Gordon Gekko 42.0
The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms – greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge – has marked the upward surge of mankind, and greed – you mark my words – will not only save Teldar Paper but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you.

Problem: LinkedIn button on Job Details Page, Feedback from Santosh Shetty and Yash Asher – We’ve solved it!
I have noticed a LinkedIn button on the job details page next to the company name. However, I doubt any of the people would know that the button stands for LinkedIn. Either you need to remove it or change the button or put in an explanation.
- Santosh Shettyapart from the fact that noone would understand that there is a linkedin button, I don’t think it makes sense to have this on the job details page. you are encouraging visitor not to apply thru your site and instead apply thru linkedin. so i think it best to have linkedin message after the visitor finishes uploading his resume.
- Yash AsherSantosh you made a very valid point and I just needed someone to tell me about it. So I’ve actually gotten rid of the button from the Job Details page. In fact, I have done exactly as suggested by Yash. So once somebody applies to a particular job then the success message that follows also has a line that tells the user that they may find it useful to check their Linkedin network for connections in the organization to which they have applied. And they are asked to click the LI button to check. This addresses it.

Idea: Apply Now button below Applicant Count, Feedback from Santosh Shetty – We’ve implemented it!
On the Job Listings page, you’ve displayed number of applicants. Shouldn’t the Apply to this Company link/button be right below this than at the bottom of the job description. I believe that this small change will increase the number of applicants.
- Santosh ShettyI implemented your suggestion albeit with a twist. Like in the case of the comment count on a blog post being linked the comment form, I have linked the applicant count to the job application form. Also it becomes apparent that it is a link because the colour of the word ‘applicant’ and ‘applicants’ is blue. I personally think this is a more aesthetic solution as I need not clutter the applicant count area with more text. Thanks again for your inputs.

Richard Branson 42.0
After Steve Jobs 42.0 and Biking 42.0, we’ve put together Richard Branson 42.0. Credit for this compilation goes to a dear friend Amita who has actively contributed to different sections of the site.
Enjoy the gyaan. Also, if you’d like to compile a 42.0 of any kind, I’d be glad to put it up. You can mail it across to nimish [at] workosaur [dot] com.
The Infosys Milestone for startups – Achieved
A few years back, the Infosys IT Admin noticed a spike in data transfer caused by employees playing Age of Empires over the network. Geeks from different Infy campuses spread through the country were hooked on to the game. The behaviour had gone unnoticed for quite a few weeks. Obviously, it went against the spirit of work and was brought to a halt on being noticed.
Since then, Infosys has been quick to clamp down upon any online activity that is deemed to be a threat to employee productivity. Access to popular cricket, job and matrimony portals have been blocked. However, during match days, employees continue to find smaller and relatively unknown sites to follow cricket scores. But access lasts only till there are a small number of people using the site. So, it would be safe to presume that once a site got blocked at Infosys, it has achieved a fair level of popularity. I call this The Infosys Milestone for a dot com startup.
Yesterday, Workosaur.com accomplished this milestone. This bit of news combined with today’s Google PageRank upgrade from 2 to 4 is representative of the fact that the effort to grow Workosaur.com is bearing fruit.
A big round of thanks to all of you who’ve spread the good word.

42.0
A couple of weeks back, Adwaita helped me kickstart a new section on Workosaur called 42.0. The section will carry articles that enlighten – each article being a collection of 42 pieces. For example, the first article under this section is a collection of 42 quotes by Steve Jobs. Read these quotes and you’d agree there couldn’t have been a better way to start to this section.
(The name is inspired by Douglas Adams’ book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, in which the number 42 is The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything, as calculated by an enormous supercomputer over a period of 7.5 million years.)
Update (April 30, 2009): Wow! Within a few hours of making this post, Kaustubh Mishra (CEO of The White Collar Company) has sent in a compilation of 42 management quotes from bikers. We’ve put it up on the site and you can see it here.
Where do you stand?
After months of research, data collation and number crunching, I have finally put together a first-of-its-kind Annual Salary Survey Report (2008-09) for Senior Professionals in India. The survey was conducted with the objective of providing senior professionals with data to benchmark their salary against prevailing industry standards within their functional area. Do download the report and circulate amongst your professional network.
